The "HOUOU" Lightweight Single Layered Aikido Gi is a great choice for beginner to intermediate Aikido-ka. The lightweight fabric has specifically been selected for its balanced properties in both promoting freedom of motion at the joints which is absolutely essential in learning new waza/techniques, and secondly, providing overall durability of the Aikido Gi. Its ease of care and maintenance is also a great characteristic of this Aikido Gi. This "HOUOU" Lightweight Single Layered Aikido Gi is recommended for mixed climates and even acceptable for hot and humid summer use.

ABOUT AIKIDO GI
Particular to Aikido Gi is the reinforced shoulder section that extends further than that of other Aikido Gi. This prevents rippage around the shoulder area for both grappling and defense. Also unique to Aikido Gi is the soft and pliable collar that meets heavy grasping in this area.

NOTE
  • May shrink 1 to 2 inches after the first washing.
  • Do not use Dryer, hang dry only.
  • Stretch the Gi after the first washing to prevent shrinking.
  • The width of shrinkage may differ from the water temperature, soaking time and drying method.
  • No returns accepted after washing.

I bought this gi about a month ago. It felt stiff out of the bag (especially the collar), and I was hoping repeated wearing/washing would help soften it a little. It softened up a *little* bit, but not as much as I hoped. The gi also shrunk quite a bit, especially the sleeves (about 2-3 inches). It also doesn't close in the front very well, and I'm constantly re-adjusting it. Overall, it is a sturdily made light-weight gi, but not what I expected for over $100. if I knew how stiff this one would be, I may have shilled out the additional $20 for the "softened" version of this gi. Or just bought another lightweight single orizashi gi.

I bought this Gi about a year ago in anticipation of the coming hot months and seminars. The workmanship, lightness, ease of care and wicking abilities are excellent. However after about half a year of rigorous training (4-6 times a week, 20 seminar days) the collar discolored and is now yellowish-gray. None of my other 5 gi's made of pure cotton have this problem. Perhaps it has to do with the synthetic blend. I expected a gi over $100 to look sharp longer. So 5 stars for functionality, -1 for discoloring, -1 for value.

I just received this product today and it feels like a perfect fit. Don't be fooled by the "ultra-light weight" term; this is a very sturdy, well designed Gi, with a soft quality to it. With the exception of an old-style Judo Gi I had 20 years ago, this is one of the best I wore so far just out of the box. Many thanks to AikiJapan for a great product, and an outstanding customer service!

Excellent gi. Extremely comfortable, soft and light. I am 5'11" and 170 lbs, would have preferred a slightly more fitted cut (size 4), nonetheless after a few washes the fit improved. I would have no reservations in purchasing the same type of gi in future.

I was worried about getting light weight because I wanted it to be durable. It is durable and I like the lighter weight. The material is too good, its very comfortable.
